There are some journeys that begin with celebration.

Mine began with silence.

I had done everything I thought I was supposed to do. I planned. I prepared. I dreamed. I imagined what pregnancy would feel like, what motherhood would look like, and how exciting it would be to share the experience with someone who was equally invested in the life we had created.

Then, one conversation changed everything.

The news that brought me joy became news that someone else ran from.

In what felt like a single moment, the future I had envisioned collapsed beneath my feet. The support I expected disappeared. The excitement was replaced by rejection. The partnership I thought I had became a distant memory.

I felt like I had been dropped in the middle of a desert with no map, no shelter, and no clear direction forward.

I was disappointed.

I was angry.

I felt betrayed.

I felt used.

I felt abandoned.

And yet, despite all of those emotions, there was one thing I never questioned.

I was going to choose life.

That choice wasn’t political for me.

It wasn’t a talking point, a debate stage argument, or a social media post.

It was deeply personal.

It was made during sleepless nights and tearful mornings. It was made while carrying a child and simultaneously carrying the weight of rejection. It was made while being offered money to walk away from my future. It was made while being pressured to choose a different path.

I had options.

Many people reminded me of that.

What they didn’t understand was that I had already made my decision.

I wasn’t carrying a problem.

I was carrying a promise.

And even though that promise came wrapped in uncertainty, I knew it belonged to me.

Pregnancy became one of the loneliest experiences of my life.

There were no late-night store runs.

No hands resting on my growing belly asking if everything was okay.

No partner attending appointments.

No one standing beside me during hospital tours while I looked around and noticed almost everyone else had someone to hold their hand.

I smiled through moments that broke my heart.

I learned how to cry quietly.

I learned how to carry disappointment and hope at the same time.

Most importantly, I learned that strength is often born in isolation.

Sometimes life strips away every person, every plan, and every expectation so you can finally hear your own voice.

Mine whispered:

“You can do this.”

And so I did.

Not perfectly.

Not fearlessly.

But faithfully.

The truth is, Sonshine & Soulwork was born long before this website existed.

It was born in those moments when I chose to keep moving forward despite feeling left behind.

It was born when I realized that pain could either make me bitter or make me better.

It was born when I stopped asking, “Why is this happening to me?” and started asking, “What is this preparing me for?”

This space is not about pretending life is beautiful all the time.

It’s about finding beauty in the middle of the mess.

It’s about motherhood.

Healing.

Faith.

Grief.

Growth.

Single parenting.

Starting over.

And learning that some of life’s greatest blessings arrive disguised as its greatest disruptions.

The little boy who inspired this journey became my sunshine.

The work required to heal became my soulwork.

Together, they became Sonshine & Soulwork.

If you’ve ever felt abandoned, overlooked, rejected, or left to rebuild your life from the ground up, I hope you find something here that reminds you of your own strength.

Because deserts don’t last forever.

Eventually, the sun rises.

And when it does, you’ll realize you were never lost.

You were becoming.
